Carehyd Hydraulics

Healthcare

n an industrial setting, power is measured in tons and speed. In healthcare, it is measured in the silent, smooth, and jolt-free movement that protects a patient’s life and a surgeon’s precision. For medical devices, “failure” is not an option, and “almost” is not acceptable.

Carehyd engineers the invisible heart of the most critical medical equipment. We have moved hydraulics beyond the factory floor, creating compact, silent, and leak-proof electro-hydraulic systems that provide life-saving power with an un-matched level of gentleness and reliability.

The Clinical Mandate: Safety, Silence, & Smoothness

A hospital environment has no equal. It demands a unique combination of power and precision that only advanced, specialized hydraulics can provide.

  • Absolute Patient Safety: A patient-lift cannot drift. A surgical table cannot sag. Our systems are engineered with “zero-drift” locking valves that hold their position perfectly, guaranteeing patient and clinician safety.

  • Silent & Jolt-Free Motion: A patient’s comfort and a surgeon’s steady hand depend on it. Unlike electric drives that can “jerk” or whine, Carehyd’s hydraulic systems provide a “whisper-quiet” and perfectly fluid motion for all adjustments.

  • Hygienic & Sealed Design: Medical devices are subjected to aggressive chemical cleaning and disinfection. Our solutions are fully sealed, often in stainless steel, (rated to IP67 or higher) to prevent fluid ingress and ensure perfect hygiene.

  • Compact Power Density: A modern hospital bed or OR table is packed with technology. A hydraulic system delivers immense lifting power in a fraction of the space, allowing for more compact, ergonomic, and feature-rich device designs.

Powering the Point of Care: Carehyd Applications

1. Surgical & Operating Room (OR) Tables This is the ultimate test of precision. Our systems provide the stable, jolt-free power for height, tilt, and Trendelenburg adjustments, giving surgeons a rock-solid, silent platform. Integrated “zero-drift” valves lock the table’s position instantly and permanently.

2. Patient Lifts & Handling (Bariatric-Capable) Carehyd provides the raw power to lift and transfer patients (up to 500kg / 1000+ lbs) with total safety and gentleness. A compact hydraulic cylinder does the work effortlessly, eliminating strain on caregivers and ensuring a dignified patient experience.

3. Diagnostic Imaging (MRI, CT & X-Ray) This is a highly specialized application. We engineer non-ferrous hydraulic actuators that are MRI-safe (MR-conditional). The hydraulic actuator (with no metal) can operate the patient table inside the magnetic bore, while the compact pump is located safely outside the room, a feat impossible for standard electric motors.

4. Advanced Hospital Beds & Stretchers Our silent, self-contained hydraulic actuators power the smooth articulation of modern hospital beds, allowing for effortless patient repositioning, height adjustment, and transport, all at the touch of a button.

FAQs on hydraulic equipment in Healthcare

I thought hydraulics were loud and "jerky"?

How can they be used in healthcare? A: That's a common misconception based on industrial machinery. Carehyd's medical-grade systems are the opposite. By using specialized internal pumps (like screw pumps) and proportional valving, our systems are more silent than many high-pitched electric drives and are unmatched in their ability to provide smooth, jolt-free starts and stops.

What is the "patient-safe" advantage of hydraulics over an electric leadscrew?

Load-holding security. An electric screw drive can be "back-driven" or may fail under load. A Carehyd hydraulic system with "zero-drift" locking valves is not back-drivable. It's a column of solid fluid. When power is off, it is mechanically locked, which is the safest possible state for a patient table or lift.

How do you eliminate the risk of a fluid leak in a sterile environment?

By design. Our "Med-Series" EHA (Electro-Hydraulic Actuator) is a "black box" solution. It is a single, factory-sealed unit with no external hoses, fittings, or fluid to manage. It's as simple to install as an electric actuator but with the power of hydraulics.

How can you have a hydraulic actuator in an MRI room's magnetic field?

We engineer it with zero ferromagnetic material. The Carehyd MRI-conditional actuator is made from non-magnetic 316L stainless steel, titanium, and polymers. The actuator itself is completely "cold" to the magnet. The pump (which uses an electric motor) is located 10-20 meters away in the control room, connected by non-metallic hoses.

Why use hydraulics for bariatric patient lifts? Can't a strong electric motor do it?

It comes down to power density. An electric actuator powerful enough to safely and smoothly lift 500kg (1100 lbs) would be enormous, heavy, and extremely expensive. A Carehyd hydraulic cylinder can provide that same immense power in a slim, compact, and cost-effective package, making the entire lift device lighter and more maneuverable.
